Moving in Indio during Coachella and Stagecoach weekends

Short answer
For three consecutive weekends in April the streets around the Empire Polo Club in Indio close or jam from Thursday to Monday. If you can, move on a weekday between festivals; if you can't, tell your mover the exact address so the truck can route around the closures and start before the traffic does.
When does festival season affect moving?
Coachella runs two weekends in mid-April and Stagecoach follows on the third. The impact isn't limited to the polo grounds: rental turnovers, shuttle routes and hotel traffic spill across Indio, La Quinta and the east end of Palm Desert from Thursday afternoon through Monday morning on each of those weekends.
The rest of the valley — Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage and everything up the hill — moves normally. It's a very local problem, which is why knowing the exact address matters more than the date.
Which streets close around the Empire Polo Club?
The closures shift year to year and the city publishes a map each spring, but the pattern is consistent: the roads immediately around the grounds south of Avenue 50 and near Monroe and Madison are restricted for festival traffic, and the nearby stretches of Highway 111, Jefferson and Avenue 52 back up badly at gate opening and closing times.
A 26-foot truck cannot cut through a residential detour the way a car can. We keep the current closure map on the truck and plan the approach from the north or west when an address sits inside the affected area.
How do you move during a festival weekend?
If the date is fixed and the address is inside the affected zone, this is how we run it:
- Start at 6am, before shuttle traffic and before gate-opening jams — the first three hours are the clearest of the day
- Confirm your street isn't inside a hard closure; if it is, we arrange the resident access pass with you in advance
- Route the truck from the north (I-10) or west (Highway 111 from Palm Desert) rather than through the grounds' perimeter
- Finish loading before early afternoon and unload at the other address once the festival traffic has gone inside
- If the job can't clear the closures in one day, we tell you that when you book, not on the morning
Should you just move on a different date?
If you have any flexibility, yes. A Tuesday or Wednesday between the festival weekends is a completely ordinary Indio move. Even shifting from Saturday to Friday morning of the same weekend takes hours off the job.
If you're a landlord turning over a rental for festival guests, the calculation flips: you want the turnover done the Monday or Tuesday before the weekend, and we schedule those weeks out because everyone else does too.
